About Dr. Kirsten

Dr. Kirsten Smith, ND, has 15+ years of experience delivering solutions to women struggling with hormonal issues or stages of life.

Dr. Kirsten closes the gap between current medical diagnostics, therapies, research and naturopathic medicine, merging the best of paradigms and delivering optimal integrative medical care to her patients.

Areas of Focus

Dr. Smith began her focus on women’s health when she graduated in 2008. For over a decade, Dr. Smith partnered with an MD who specializes in women’s health and more specifically hormonal and thyroid health. Together they offered full spectrum care, merging naturopathic and conventional medical approaches and delivering pioneering care. This provided a medical residency experience that significantly contributed to Dr. Smith’s breadth and depth of knowledge. This led her to becoming a leader in women’s health in the naturopathic medical community. She is a revered and skilled diagnostician and clinician.

Dr. Smith is committed to a high standard of care with an evidence-based approach and works collaboratively with MDs, specialists, and various medical practitioners.

Dr. Smith received an honours degree in communications at Queen’s University. Later, she took pre-medical science courses and completed the 4-year full-time program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, one of six accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America. Subsequently, she has completed advanced medical studies in various areas but focuses on PCOS, endometriosis, PMDD, thyroid disease management, diabetes, menopause, gastrointestinal disorders, anti-aging and environmental and functional medicine.

Dr. Smith continues to strive for excellence by taking ongoing medical education courses and attaining advanced clinical training in Canada, the United States, Germany, India and Costa Rica. This year (2024/2025) Dr. Smith will sit the board exam to become a North American Menopause Society (NAMS) Certified Practitioner (NCMP).

“There is something deeply personal and yet universal about witnessing the vital force of the human spirit, which plays a pivotal role in healing. I am priviledged to see this often. To see my patients decide that they are worth it, decide to rally, and decide to make empowering choices – there is nothing more inspirational than that.”

Background

Dr. Smith has a wealth of life experiences because prior to becoming an ND, Dr. Smith worked for many years as a producer in television, radio and documentary film in current affairs and related programming. She worked, volunteered and lived all over the world from Bangladesh to the Amazon to Antarctica, and learned about the formidable power of various ancient medicines which inspired her to investigate naturopathic medicine and completely change her life.

Between balancing being a parent and managing a business and while walking the talk and putting the time and work into staying healthy and having crossed through peri/menopause herself, Dr. Smith has a deep understanding of how to help move you forward  – this being the art of practicing medicine.

Dr. Smith is often a guest speaker on podcasts, at conferences, in programs and at events teaching about women’s health, hormones, perimenopause and menopause medicine. She is committed to bringing it all into the modern era. Women deserve a lot more research and care than they are currently getting, and it is her mission to play a part in changing this for the better.
